PJ.28 Demo Day – September 2019, Hamburg: Event Summary
On 19th September 2019, the Integrated Airport Operations (IAO PJ.28) project successfully hosted its Demo Day at the Hamburg Airport Conference Center. The event showcased the practical implementation and operational benefits of SESAR technologies designed to enhance airport surface efficiency and safety.
The open day was held under the framework of the IAO PJ.28 Very Large Scale Demonstration (VLD) project, which aims to validate and promote advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) solutions developed within the SESAR Pilot Common Project (PCP).
Attendees were provided with comprehensive insights into key demonstrations that illustrate the maturity and readiness of several critical SESAR solutions, including:
Solution #53: Departure Management synchronized with Pre-Departure Sequencing,
Solution #02: Airport Safety Nets,
Solution #22: Automated Assistance to Controllers for Surface Movement Planning and Routing.
The event afforded visitors the opportunity to observe systems successfully developed and validated at both PCP airports, such as Nice Côte d’Azur, as well as non-PCP airports including Hamburg and Budapest. Of particular note was the Hamburg demonstration utilizing live airport operational data, enabling participants to experience in real time how these SESAR solutions function in an active airport environment.
The Demo Day not only highlighted the technological advancements accomplished through the IAO project but also reinforced the collaborative efforts among European stakeholders to modernize airport surface operations, paving the way for wider industrial deployment.
The event concluded with positive feedback from participants, confirming the value of these innovations in improving operational performance, safety, and controller situational awareness across Europe’s airports.
